So...I went to the Stumptown comics fest today in Portland.
I got to meet Jeff Smith, the creator of Bone!

I bought a print that he drew so I could have him sign it. I shook his hand, told him it was nice to meet him, and then I asked him about the time Dave Sim, the creator of Cerebus, challenged him to a boxing match. He talked about how he and Dave used to be friends until they had a falling out, that Dave had challenged him in the letters section of Cerebus, and that Sim had wanted all kinds of specifications for the fight, and that "it was weird". I told him Dave Sim's pretty weird himself, and he said "yeah". (For the record, the fight never actually happened.)
I wanted to tell him, "If Dave Sim ever challenged me to a fight, I'd whup that crazy motherfucker's ass!", but I didn't think that would be a very appropriate thing to say. :) Seriously though, Dave Sim is nuts, do a google search on him if you don't know much about him.
But Jeff Smith is a cool dude. :) The rest of the show was all right too, there were a ton of indie comic companies hawking their stuff, but I didn't go home with much since I didn't have the money for it; I did buy this one girl's indie book though, just because she offered me a cookie, so I thought I'd return the favor by buying one of her books. :) I also got The Dark Tower hardcover for 10 bucks, which was a really good price. All in all, it was a good time.
